WVU Rare Earth Elements Lab Manager Technical Development Lead for Mission Critical Materials and Rare Earth Element Extraction

Biography

David is the manager of the WVU REE Initiative development lab. David holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and chemistry from Geneva College of Beaver Falls Pennsylvania. David has worked at West Virginia University since July of 2020 working on rare earth element extraction from waste feedstocks.

David worked under the West Virginia University Water Research Institute until May of 2025, serving as its critical mineral program director from March of 2023. In his time at WVWRI David helped develop the AMDREE™ technology, including the implementation of the Mt.Storm WV AMDREE™ pilot facility.

David specializes in mid-stream REE extraction process development and serves as a lead in generating rare earth enriched feed stocks from AMD treatment. Since May of 2025 David has served as technical lead for West Virginia University in the commercial development of the AMDREE™ technology.
